HAPPY 5TH OF JULY!

As many of you are aware, we first got into the weenie trade on the 5th of July, 1976, exactly 34 years ago today. We had been to a Bicentennial cookout the night before, hosted by our old friend John Crawford.

John was a hard working, serious Grateful Dead fan who was also very well educated and owned a landscaping business. Part of that package was that John had also recently become a vegetatian so the hot dogs at his cookout were, to be chartitable, less than fantastic...

That, recently having taken a philosophy course and having also recently read "Zen & The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" and "Another Roadside Attraction" by Tom Robbins and a mean hangover the next morning, showed me the way. I was also recently unemployed and looking for something to do and hot dogs are about as American as you can get.

John is no longer with us, passing away quietly one Spring afternoon almost 15 years ago now, but he made his mark and we miss him a lot.
