TUBESTEAK THEATER

"Everything's Jake" (2000)

A unique take on homelessness and a solid performance by Ernie Hudson.

Netflix synopsis: Although he's homeless in New York, the remarkably well-centered Jake (Hudson) finds peace in his daily routine, a routine that's disrupted when he discovers a newly destitute man (Graeme Malcolm) in distress. Taking an interest in the stranger, Jake befriends him and shares his survival techniques.

A film festival favorite directed by up-and-comer Matthew Miele, this gently comic drama co-stars Debbie Allen, Robin Givens and Lou Rawls.

Cameo by Phylis Diller

Hot dog relevance: Rawls runs a weenie stand and sings his weenie jingle approximately a third of the way into the movie.
